Police Arrest More than 50 People at Champions League Final

The police in London announced the arrest of 53 individuals last night due to pitch invasion and attempts to breach security measures at Wembley Stadium before the UEFA Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored two goals in the second half, leading Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory, increasing their record number of tournament wins to 15.

The pitch invasion occurred in the first minute of the match when three individuals entered the field separately. The police also stated that several people were arrested for attempting to enter the match without tickets. Louise Boudfoot, the capital's police chief, remarked in a statement: "We are confident that the vast majority of attempts to gain illegal access to Wembley Stadium this evening failed thanks to the efforts of officers, stewards, and other stadium staff."

She added: "Officers arrested 53 people at Wembley, including five for pitch invasion and the majority for attempts to breach security measures. Major sporting events often see attempts by those without tickets to bypass the surrounding fence or enter in other ways."

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium condemned the "actions of the pitch invaders" and clarified that "all individuals were arrested. We will support the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken." In 2021, during the UEFA Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley, clashes occurred between fans and officials inside and around the stadium, as many fans tried to enter the venue without tickets.
