The massive Azabudai Hills real estate complex was officially inaugurated in Tokyo on Friday, featuring the tallest new skyscraper in Japan at 330 meters. The project by Mori Building Company aims to attract over 30 million visitors annually. This "city within a city" is expected to accommodate 20,000 office workers and 3,500 residents at full capacity, according to a statement from the Japanese real estate group.
The complex, which includes three skyscrapers built amid green spaces, will feature 150 restaurants and shops, as well as a new immersive digital art museum developed by the Japanese collective teamLab, scheduled to open in February.
Azabudai Hills surpasses the height of a skyscraper in Osaka (Western Japan), but it will not hold the title of the tallest building in the country for long, as the Torch Tower, reaching 390 meters, is set to be completed in 2027-2028 in Tokyo.
Additionally, the Japanese capital is home to one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Tokyo Skytree, which stands at 634 meters and was inaugurated in 2012. Nonetheless, Japan remains far behind the heights achieved by skyscrapers in other countries in Asia and the Middle East.
