Reports have revealed that Paris Saint-Germain is interested in signing Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, following Kylian Mbappé's decision to leave the Parisian team at the end of the season. Mbappé has informed his club, Paris Saint-Germain, that he will leave for free during the upcoming summer transfer window after his contract ends.
According to French newspaper L'Équipe, PSG is considering signing Mohamed Salah, who is also targeted by clubs in the Saudi Pro League, to compensate for the potential departure of Mbappé to Real Madrid next summer. Media outlets continue to speculate about the new sporting project of Paris Saint-Germain in light of Mbappé's imminent exit from the team.
Several reports have indicated that the Parisian management is set to invest the money saved from Mbappé's departure in building a new project based on three signings: a fast winger to replace Mbappé, a defensive midfielder, and a playmaker. L'Équipe published a list of names in addition to Mohamed Salah, noting that the Parisian management's priority is bolstering the attack with Nigerian Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker.
Other reports confirmed that Paris is prepared to pay €130 million for the release clause in Osimhen's contract, as well as €175 million to break Rafael Leão's contract with Milan. The list of candidates for PSG's project also includes Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, Lenny Uro from Lille, Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle, and Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich, along with the return of Xavi Simons, currently on loan to Leipzig.
In this context, former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson confirmed that Mohamed Salah is set to leave the "Reds" at the end of the current season for Saudi Arabia. Salah's future has been a topic of ongoing speculation in the summer of 2023, especially with Al-Ittihad's attempts to secure his services, but Liverpool insisted on keeping the player.
The end of the current season represents Liverpool's last realistic chance to gain money from selling Salah, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025. Reports have indicated that Al-Ittihad has made a staggering offer to acquire the "Reds'" top scorer in the upcoming summer transfer window, amounting to €235 million, with a salary estimated at €85 million per season.
Lawrenson stated in remarks reported by British newspaper The Mirror: "Salah will definitely leave 100%." He added: "Regardless of what happens this season, I believe Mohamed Salah will move to Saudi Arabia... I hope Liverpool receives a hefty fee from the sale of the Egyptian Pharaoh to sign two outstanding players."
The former Liverpool player pointed out: "Salah could have left last summer and barged into coach Klopp's office to say he wanted out, but he didn't do that." He clarified: "The players who came in, in Salah's absence, know they are fighting for a spot in the starting lineup, which is a great thing."
