From Beijing: Saudi Foreign Minister Emphasizes Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan praised China's continuous support for ending the war in Gaza during a speech on Thursday at the 10th ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, held in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. He emphasized the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring sufficient and continuous access for aid, and establishing a reliable and irreversible path to a two-state solution, which guarantees the Palestinian people their legitimate right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

In the beginning of his speech, bin Farhan noted the two-decade anniversary of the establishment of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, which has represented a civilizational framework for joint cooperation between Arab countries and the People's Republic of China, based on mutual respect for the sovereignty and independence of states. He stated, "The forum's cooperation mechanisms, programs, and various activities over the past years have embodied the principles of the United Nations Charter and its goals to achieve a world dominated by peace, security, prosperity, and progress."

The Foreign Minister pointed out that Saudi Arabia's hosting of the first Arab-Chinese summit in 2022 and the successful visit of President Xi Jinping to Riyadh represented a historic turning point in the trajectory of joint cooperation in political, economic, and social fields, elevating it to levels of strategic cooperation that fulfill leadership aspirations and mutual interests of the peoples.

He remarked that enhancing and developing cooperative relations requires everyone to continue dialogue and consultation in addressing regional issues through political and peaceful means, the necessity of maintaining the unity and territorial integrity of Arab states, rejecting foreign interventions, and continuing efforts to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the region to preserve security and stability and safeguard national achievements.

Bin Farhan stressed the importance of continuing international efforts to combat climate change, in which Arab countries have contributed by developing national plans for addressing climate change. He noted that the Kingdom has taken a proactive approach to mitigate the impacts of climate change by launching the Middle East Green Initiative and the Saudi Green Initiative.
