"The Litani": To Lift Violations from the Electricity Network

The National Authority for the Litani River reiterated its call to municipalities, relevant parties, and security and judicial authorities to eliminate violations of the public network. This comes as unjustified load increases of over 20% exceed 8 megawatts, leading to daily losses exceeding 200,000 kilowatt-hours.

In a statement, the authority addressed "all municipalities and residents in the villages benefiting from exit number 3, at the Al-Ouli station connected to its hydroelectric plants." The authority noted that it had observed an unexpected rise in the load on the medium-voltage line at the Al-Ouli plant, which supplies some areas of Jezzine and the Taffah region through Electricité du Liban's network in recent weeks. The additional load exceeded 20% of the normal consumption of these lines over approximately two months, resulting in line instability.

The solutions adopted by the Electricité du Liban, which involve implementing internal rationing through circuit breakers, have raised questions about the fairness of distribution and maneuvering on the breakers by residents, compromising public safety.

The authority emphasized that in light of this dire situation, it reiterates its call for municipalities, relevant parties, and security and judicial authorities to take strict measures to eliminate violations of the public network, especially considering the unjustified load increases estimated at over 20%, exceeding 8 megawatts, and daily losses exceeding 200,000 kilowatt-hours. This situation poses a significant threat to the station, from all technical and physical aspects, while depriving citizens of electricity supply.

The authority confirmed that it will "publish the names of major violators of the electricity network in these towns, who consume energy to operate industrial facilities, plastic factories, stone mills, and mining stations, each drawing more than 500 amperes."
