Bassil Meets Hungarian Foreign Minister: Our Future is Shared, Let's Build it Together on Human Values

The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gebran Bassil, met with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. During the meeting, he emphasized "respect for the sovereignty of peoples and their particularities," condemning the efforts to undermine values and dismantle the family.

Bassil stated: "My friend Péter, we have come to you today from Batroun, my city located on the eastern Mediterranean, which carries thousands of years of civilizations in its history. There stands the Cathedral of Saint Stephen, the patron saint of the city, at the foot of the sea. The cathedral was built on the ruins of an old church, said to be Crusader. We are not Crusaders coming from the West; we are Eastern Christians, created in this land, and we resonate with the West through values inspired by Christianity, and with culture. Therefore, our cathedral is of classical style, designed by the Italian architect Joseph Maggiore, and inspired by the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome."

He continued: "Between my country and yours, there are many shared values, sufferings, and heroics, shaped by history, calling us to build a shared future based on justice and peace. Our common message is one of love, openness, and positive interaction between peoples and mutual respect. Respect for borders, sovereignty, and dignity in a time when the powerful dominate the weak with their weapons and economies; however, our strength lies in the measure of spirit and faith. Our message is to respect cultural and religious diversity and the particularities of peoples, and a call to refrain from conspiracies that uproot peoples from their lands and plant them in the lands of others. Here, we fight together against the same forces that seek to impose migration on our countries that turns into settlement. Our message is a respect for family values and their preservation, which form the foundation of every society and the basis of faith in our religion."

He concluded: "They attempt to dismantle the family by promoting, and even imposing, methods that manipulate human nature and change it from how the Creator made it, as if creation is greater than the Creator. Our confrontation is shared, our values are shared, our future is shared, so let us build it together on true human values."
