A significant controversy has arisen from a video circulating on social media of artist Amr Diab slapping a fan who tried to take a picture with him at a wedding.
The incident raises questions about the role of security and judicial authorities in restoring the fan's dignity, especially since the fan did not provoke Diab in any way. Lawyer Shaaban Said stated, "The incident of physical assault by Amr Diab on a fan is unfortunate; physical or even verbal aggression is completely unacceptable in all circumstances, and according to the law, it is punishable." He added that the young man who was assaulted has the right to go to the nearest police station to file a report about the incident.
Said mentioned that Article 242 of the Penal Code stipulates a punishment of imprisonment for no more than one year and a fine ranging from 10,000 to 200,000 Egyptian pounds for simple assault without an instrument or premeditation.
The video that spread across social media showed Amr Diab "slapping" a fan who attempted to capture a "selfie" with him during the wedding of producer Mohamed El Saady's daughter.
It's noteworthy that this is not the first incident for Amr Diab, as just days ago, he insulted a sound engineer on stage during a concert, causing discontent among many of his followers.
