Threat of a Mass Revolution in an Iraqi Province

Sattam Abu Risha, the son of the former leader of the Anbar Awakening, Abdul Sattar Abu Risha, threatened today, Thursday, with a mass revolution against corruption in Anbar Province, Iraq. Abu Risha stated in a statement that "after the formation of the local government in Anbar, we were optimistic and expected significant administrative changes to refresh the government apparatus and contribute to correcting the course; however, unfortunately, this has not occurred. Instead, the situation has exceeded the thefts and corruption taking place in the province’s departments."

He demanded that "the Anbar Provincial Council dismiss the directors of departments who have proven corruption records and have been long-standing in their roles, and replace them with new individuals based on competency, experience, and good conduct." Abu Risha clarified that "if this is not implemented, we will empower our supporters to start wide protests and demand comprehensive and urgent change, and we will declare a mass revolution against corruption and corrupt officials, as the interests of Anbar and its people are above all considerations and titles."
