Two Travelers Arrested with Drugs

The Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced on Saturday the arrest of two travelers in possession of drugs at the Shalamcheh border crossing. According to a statement from the authority, "Based on the directives of the head of the Border Ports Authority, Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, to tighten inspection procedures for travelers and goods and combat the scourge of drugs, the management of the Shalamcheh border crossing, in cooperation with Customs Police and the Drugs Department, was able to arrest two travelers and seized a herbal substance suspected to be marijuana weighing approximately 540 grams, and a brown substance suspected to be hashish weighing approximately 388 grams hidden inside plastic boxes used for laundry in a failed attempt to smuggle it into the country." The statement also noted that "an official seizure report was organized, and the accused along with the seized items were referred to the Customs Police station in Shalamcheh to take the appropriate legal actions against them."
