Swimmer Samir Ghatiss has achieved a significant milestone for Lebanese sports abroad, securing third place in the Triathlon World Championship, recently held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, with participants from various Arab and international countries. Ghatiss, who has been crowned champion of West Asia in the same event, claimed third place globally and the bronze medal in the 14-15 age category, completing the three disciplines of the triathlon—swimming, running, and cycling—in a time of 34.07 minutes, behind American Josue Berguno (33.28 min) and Spaniard Nacho Blanco (33.44 min).
Having recently won the West Asian title in the triathlon and being one of Lebanon's top swimmers, Ghatiss leveraged these factors to outperform his competitors in the swimming segment, giving him a clear advantage, which led to his third-place finish. Observers had predicted that he would win gold and the world title due to his performance in this race.
Notably, Ghatiss attracted the attention of both Arab and international media following his achievement, especially as he competed against and triumphed over several notable champions in his category in this sport.
National coach Mohammad Saqr, who accompanied Ghatiss to the championship, praised this Lebanese achievement, considering it a result of the athlete's continuous efforts, substantial support from the coach, and the backing provided by the athlete's father, coach Abdullah Ghatiss.
It is also noteworthy that the "Pro Swim" swimming school was the official sponsor of the Lebanese champion in this global competition, providing all necessary support for his mission to honorably represent Lebanon.
