The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, after his meeting with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri in Ain El Tineh, indicated that he briefed the President on all the developments occurring in the country generally. He discussed the work of the Ministry of Interior across various levels, whether in departments or security agencies, and provided the President with updates regarding the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces, General Security, and all agencies.
He added: "I also briefed President Berri on all security situations and the investigations into the assault on the American embassy last week. President Berri praised the efforts of the Information Branch in uncovering the perpetrator and the professional and good investigations. Regarding the demonstration that took place last Saturday, I would like to clarify what I previously stated: this demonstration was not licensed, and the situation on the ground was handled by all security forces with the necessary military assistance."
He concluded: "We spoke with President Berri about the issue of Syrian displacement, this complicated dilemma that must be solved in a scientific and logical manner, with ongoing follow-up starting politically and later on with all administrative and security measures taken on the ground. This topic is not a matter for exploitation; this is a subject around which the entire people are united, and it is essential that this unity be maintained regarding this issue, away from further exploitation to facilitate a solution."
