The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced in a statement that "in order to ensure public and traffic safety, and to protect the infrastructure of the international road network, and to maintain the condition of the roads and international highways, and to limit the increasing factors of deterioration that could lead to the risk of collapses, and in compliance with the new traffic law No. 243 dated 2012/10/23, specifically articles 134 to 138, which define the maximum total weights for vehicles and maximum axle loads per axle on trucks, as well as weight tables No. 1 and 2 found in the annexes of the aforementioned law, which outline the maximum permissible weights for trucks according to their categories and axles."
It added: "Therefore, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has sent a letter to the Supreme Council of Customs requesting the implementation of the new traffic law regarding overloaded trucks that exceed the weights specified in this law, following the discovery that many trucks are entering with loads exceeding the maximum weight limits allowed per the applicable laws, particularly the aforementioned traffic law." The Ministry addressed a letter to "the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities requesting the implementation of the new traffic law regarding overloaded trucks that exceed the weights specified in this law, after it became clear that many trucks are circulating on the roads with loads exceeding the maximum allowed weights according to the laws in force, especially the aforementioned traffic law."
It noted that "in this context, and under the directives of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport has issued Circular No. 1/2024 to all border centers affiliated with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport – General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport at the Masnaa, Aboudiyah, and Al-Aridah crossings, requesting to ensure that transit trucks have all the necessary documents and permits and comply with the new traffic law regarding maximum total weights, in order to maintain public safety and the condition of the international road network."
