Murdoch Engages in Legal Battle with Sons Over Successor

The American newspaper The New York Times reported on Wednesday that media mogul Rupert Murdoch is engaged in a legal battle against three of his children to ensure that his eldest son and chosen successor, Lachlan Murdoch, remains in control of his media empire. The newspaper's report cites a sealed court document indicating that Murdoch is attempting to expand Lachlan's voting power within the "Murdoch Family Trust" to secure a majority and prevent his siblings from challenging him. The trust, based in Reno, Nevada, holds the family's shares in a vast array of television networks and newspapers owned by Murdoch through his companies News Corp and Fox Corp. Lachlan Murdoch serves as the chairman of News Corp, which publishes the Wall Street Journal and The Sun, and is also the chairman and CEO of Fox Corp.
