A video circulated on social media and was reported by Libyan media, showing the former leader of the "National Movement Force," Adel Ghalous, throwing money from his home balcony in celebration of his release from prison. Many people gathered below the building to catch the cash.
According to local media, Adel Ghalous, also known as "Shita," and Adham Nasouf, a leader in the "Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade," were released after spending several years in Mitiga prison in Tripoli for charges of smuggling and extortion.
In celebration of his freedom, Ghalous threw a large amount of money from his balcony in the Ghot Shaal area of Tripoli. Videos shared online showed crowds of citizens rushing to pick up the cash he was throwing, leading to significant congestion in the street where he resides.
These scenes sparked anger among Libyans, who viewed them as a display of wealth despite Ghalous having been imprisoned for over five years, while many others struggle with delayed salaries and deteriorating purchasing power and services. Activist Issam Al-Jahmi commented on the video, saying, "Glory be to God, there are people without salaries or liquidity, others living in poverty, and we find another class throwing money in the street. There should be an agency specialized in monitoring the sources of funds."
