Floods and Landslides in Taiwan

Typhoon Kimi hit northern Taiwan on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two people, flooding, and the sinking of a cargo ship before moving westward toward China across the Taiwan Strait, where more heavy rain is expected. The Central Weather Bureau stated, "The typhoon made landfall on the northeastern coast of Taiwan in Yilan County at 16:00 GMT on Wednesday, and it is the strongest typhoon to strike the island in eight years, accompanied by storm winds reaching speeds of 227 kilometers per hour before it weakened." By 04:15 GMT, Kimi was in the Taiwan Strait heading towards Fuzhou in Fujian Province, China. Taiwan Power Company reported that the typhoon caused power outages affecting about half a million homes, but electricity has now been restored to most of them.
