The Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, Major General Mohammad Khair, inspected the Sarar landfill fire following directives from Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He was accompanied by a representative from MP Mohammad Suleiman, Khaled Al-Mohammad, and an engineer from the "Khatib & Alami" company, Ziad Obeid. After listening to the affected residents from the neighboring towns, and reviewing the landfill site, General Khair confirmed that his visit was directed by the Prime Minister to mitigate this environmental disaster. He stated that he would continue to follow up on this issue to provide an accurate picture and compile a detailed report on this specific landfill, which must adhere to specific conditions and laws that hold responsibility for any harm caused to citizens and the environment. Khair revealed a series of meetings and communications initiated by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Environment in coordination with municipalities and federations to begin operating the sorting facility to reduce illegal dumps and to implement a rapid plan to address the landfill fire and monitor the resulting damages.
