The French newspaper "Le Monde" has revealed that the city of Benghazi in Libya has become a major departure point for illegal migrants heading to the United States. Reports indicate that several charter flights carrying migrants, most of whom are from South Asia, have been landing at Managua Airport in Nicaragua.
In the early morning of May 18, a Libyan Airlines Boeing 777 flight from Benghazi landed at Managua after a 14-hour journey, carrying 367 Indian nationals. On May 23, the same aircraft operated a similar flight with 298 Indians on board.
Although there has been no official confirmation of these flights, Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua has become known as a key transit point for migrants heading to the United States. Since 2021, Nicaragua has allowed citizens from countries facing political difficulties to enter without a visa upon payment upon arrival, which has increased the flow of charter flights to the country.
