The President of the Arab and UAE Basketball Federations, Major General Ismail Al-Qarqawi, emphasized at the beginning of the Board of Directors meeting held yesterday, Sunday, in Cairo, the necessity of developing the work system and activating the participation of member countries in Arab championships, especially in women’s national teams competitions and youth championships, similar to other competitions, especially club competitions. Al-Qarqawi praised the significant efforts made by the General Secretariat under the leadership of Secretary-General Brigadier Abdullah Shalabi, thanking the Arab federations for their cooperation and keenness to support and develop Arab basketball.
Following this, a technical report was presented regarding the previous year, which included details of what took place in the 22nd General Assembly meeting of the Arab Federation held in Dubai on February 16, 2022, as well as the minutes of the 23rd meeting held the following day, which coincided with the election of a new board led by Major General Ismail Al-Qarqawi. The report highlighted the championships organized by the federation, starting with the men's national teams championship in the UAE, won by Lebanon, followed by the youth championship in Cairo won by the Egyptian team, the women's clubs championship won by the Beirut team with the participation of 11 teams, and finally, the men's clubs championship in Kuwait with 16 participating teams, which was won by Al-Kuwait Club, while Al-Ahly of Egypt came in second place. Due to the strength and popularity of the championship, the International Federation decided to include it in the international agenda, and the president and members of the federation expressed their happiness with this international decision.
After the report, council member Rabih Boughaerifi proposed an increase in subscriptions, while the federation’s vice president Dr. Magdi Abu Freikha suggested adopting three levels during the hosting of championships: first, second, and third. The council commended the financial performance and the development of the financial system, as well as the efforts to provide the budget and increase the federation’s revenues, where a surplus in the budget and a rise in revenues compared to expenses were noted. The council approved the final account presented by the financial manager Ayman Salem.
