# UK: Labour Party Crushes Conservatives and Starmer's Comments

British Labour Party leader Keir Starmer thanked voters early on Friday for supporting his party and placing their trust in it. Starmer tweeted on his account on X, "To everyone who campaigned for the Labour Party in this election, and to everyone who voted for us and placed their trust in the Labour Party... thank you."

The Labour Party achieved a sweeping victory in the legislative elections held on Thursday, ending 14 consecutive years of Conservative rule and opening the doors of Downing Street for its leader Starmer, according to voter opinion polls.

According to the poll results published by British television channels, the Labour Party (centre-left) will secure 410 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons, leading by a large margin over the Conservatives, who will be limited to just 131 seats in their worst electoral outcome since the early 20th century.

Meanwhile, the anti-immigration "Reform UK" party performed better than expected, securing 13 parliamentary seats according to the poll.

This result paves the way for the Labour Party to form the next government, representing a resounding defeat for the Conservatives, whose representation has dramatically decreased from 365 MPs elected five years ago to only 131 now.

The Liberal Democrats (centre) are expected to have 61 MPs in the next parliament. King Charles III is set to task Starmer (61 years old) with forming a new government on Friday. The former human rights lawyer will assume the position of Prime Minister after just nine years in politics and four years as leader of the Labour Party.
