The White House announced in a statement on Friday evening that "U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed her readiness to debate the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump." Harris stated in the announcement published on the official White House website: "Well, many of you have asked me about the debate... and I will tell you that I am ready for it with Donald Trump." She added, "I agreed to the debate that was previously scheduled for September 10, and he had agreed to that as well." She continued: "Now it seems he is backing down... I am ready, and I believe voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on the debate stage, so I am ready... let's go." Donald Trump's presidential campaign announced the refusal to discuss the terms of a presidential debate between the former president and Harris until the Democrats officially announce their candidate for the U.S. presidential election.
