A statement from the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division, reads: "Following several car theft incidents in various areas of Lebanon, the International Theft Crimes Bureau within the Judicial Police Unit began efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators. Through meticulous surveillance and tracking operations, the bureau was able to pinpoint the location of two suspects from a gang active in several regions within the Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates, which targets modern vehicles such as 'Jeep Grand Cherokee,' 'Hyundai,' and 'Kia.'
On June 25, 2024, the bureau's patrol managed to arrest the suspects inside a rented house in the neighborhood of Bourj Hamoud, where they were planning their thefts. The suspects are: R.A. (born in 1999, Syrian) and A.B. (born in 1985, Lebanese). They were found in possession of two forged identity cards. They confessed to stealing cars and transporting them from the Mount Lebanon governorate to the north, in preparation for smuggling them into Syria at various times and dates, on behalf of a wanted individual who is currently on the run.
An investigation is underway with the arrested suspects, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining individuals involved, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary."
