E-Cigarette Causes Teen's Lung Explosion... Father Tells His Story

British man Mark Blythe was shocked as he watched his 17-year-old daughter Kayla suffer a painful seizure, only to discover in the hospital that her lung had exploded due to an e-cigarette. According to the British newspaper "Metro," doctors informed the father that his daughter underwent a surgery that lasted five and a half hours to save her, during which part of her lung was removed after it had been punctured due to excessive vaping. The doctors explained to the teenager that overuse led to the explosion of a small air pocket, known as a pulmonary bulla, which nearly caused her to suffer a stroke. Kayla had smoked the equivalent of 400 cigarettes a week, according to doctors, using the e-cigarette. Her father stated, "What happened terrified me; I cried like a little child. The sight of her on the table tore me apart; she even had a seizure during the procedure. I thought I had lost my daughter. I hope everyone stays away from smoking; nothing is worth this." The popularity of e-cigarettes has rapidly increased, with the number of individuals claiming to have tried them nearly doubling to around 20% in 2023, according to the organization "Action on Smoking and Health." A study by a public health charity found that the number of children aged 11 to 17 using e-cigarettes has doubled in 2023.
