Family of Colombian Vice President Attacked by Gunfire

Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez announced in a post on the platform "X" that unknown assailants opened fire on a car occupied by her family members yesterday, Sunday, without anyone being harmed. Márquez wrote in her post: "My father, my six-year-old nephew, and two security guards were attacked on the Suárez-Cali highway near the town of Timba... They were unharmed and are fine."

Márquez requested the country's Public Prosecutor's Office to open an investigation into the attack, expressing her concern about the security situation in the Valle del Cauca department, where the incident occurred.

The newspaper "Timbo" reported, citing the police, that the incident took place in the afternoon of June 16, and that the car carrying the Vice President's relatives was shot at four times while they were returning from a Father's Day celebration. The Colombian government condemned the attack on Márquez's family, calling it "outrageous." President Gustavo Petro ordered an investigation into the crime.
