Biden Congratulates Starmer

The White House announced that U.S. President Joe Biden called Britain's new Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday to congratulate him following the Labour Party's landslide victory in the parliamentary elections. The White House statement said, "The two leaders reaffirmed the special relationship between the countries and the importance of working together to support freedom and democracy worldwide." It quoted Biden as saying he looks forward to working closely with Starmer on a range of critical issues, such as supporting Ukraine against Russia, the Good Friday Agreement, and collaborating with Northern Ireland leaders on growth and economic opportunities. The White House also noted that Biden looks forward to welcoming Starmer to Washington next week for the NATO summit celebrating the alliance's 75th anniversary. For his part, new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured Biden of his country's "steadfast" support for Ukraine.
