On Sunday, the "Strong Lebanon" bloc took its first step toward the initiative it announced, as Head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gebran Bassil, visited Patriarch Bechara Rai, emphasizing the importance of the principles of consensus and communication to achieve the presidential election. Sources monitoring the presidential movement indicated the significance of political forces recognizing the idea of dialogue or consultation to accomplish any necessary events, particularly the presidential election. They noted that continuing in the same manner will not lead to any accomplishments, and paralysis will remain predominant, as both parties in the political conflict have the capability to obstruct but do not possess the ability to achieve the necessary events.
However, the sources ruled out the possibility of a near presidential breakthrough in comments made to the "Anbaa" electronic newspaper. They linked the presidential election to the Gaza conflict and events in the south, stating that "all parties may confirm the separation between the two events, especially Hezbollah, but everyone knows that this separation is illogical since Lebanon is a battleground for international conflicts and settlements, and it will not be detached from the unstable regional reality. The accomplishment of necessary events will be contingent upon achieving regional and international settlements."
Yet, this reality does not prevent the continuation of initiatives, as they will form a consensus ground for political parties when the time comes for regional settlements, including in Lebanon. Parliamentary blocs will return to the existing initiatives, particularly the continuous "Progressive" initiative, in pursuit of consensus because, without communication, obstruction remains prevalent according to "Anbaa" electronic newspaper.
