Suspension of Netanyahu Government Spokesperson After Dispute with David Cameron

Media reports have revealed that the spokesperson for the Israeli government, Elan Levy, has been suspended following a bitter disagreement with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron regarding aid to Gaza. The British newspaper Daily Mail reported, citing Israeli Channel 12, that the British Foreign Office lodged a complaint against Levy after he commented on a post by Lord David Cameron, who called for increased aid access to Gaza on March 8.

Cameron had urged "allowing more trucks into Gaza as the fastest way to deliver aid to those in need" on March 8. Levy, who serves as the English-speaking spokesperson for the Israeli government, responded to Cameron's post by asserting that Israeli crossings have the sufficient capacity to handle aid directed to Gaza. In a now-deleted post on X, Levy responded to Cameron, stating, "I hope you are also aware that there are no restrictions on the entry of food, water, medicine, or shelter equipment to Gaza, and in fact, the crossings have excess capacity."

This prompted the British Foreign Office to write to the Israeli government, inquiring whether the "critical post about Cameron" reflects Israel's official stance. Reports indicate that Levy was suspended shortly thereafter. Additionally, Levy criticized the United Nations over aid distribution, asserting that Israel provides faster opportunities for aid to reach Gaza. So far, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not released any official statement regarding Levy's suspension. Neither the British Foreign Office nor Elan Levy has commented on these developments.
