UN Expresses Serious Concern Over Series of Executions in Iran

UN Human Rights Commission spokesperson Liz Throssell stated that High Commissioner Volker Turk is deeply concerned about reports of Iranian authorities executing 29 individuals in recent days. Throssell added that it is particularly alarming that the majority of death sentences in Iran were due to convictions related to drug offenses. She noted that the United Nations has not yet independently verified the number of those executed.
