Israeli Airstrikes on Damascus Result in Casualties

A military personnel was killed and three others were injured due to an Israeli strike targeting several military sites in the vicinity of Damascus and a residential building within the city, according to the Syrian official news agency SANA, citing a military source early Sunday. The source stated that the military personnel was killed and three others were wounded in aerial bombardment after midnight Saturday-Sunday.

The source added that the strike originated "from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights," targeting "several of our military sites in the southern region and a residential building in the Kafr Sousa area of Damascus." The source noted that air defense systems intercepted the missiles "despite their density and shot down a significant number of them."

For its part, the Israeli army stated that its airstrikes were in response to the launch of two drones from Syria towards northern Eilat on Saturday. It clarified that the drones were intercepted, noting, "The Israeli army targeted during the night one of the Syrian military command centers and infrastructure sites. Additionally, it struck terrorist targets used by the Syrian army's air defense unit."

Local media reported an "explosion of an ammunition depot due to the Israeli attack that targeted one of the locations around the capital." They mentioned that "ambulance and fire engine sirens can be heard in the streets of the city." Local journalists on social media shared images showing a fire raging in a residential area in Kafr Sousa, Damascus.
