Title: Pope Francis Expresses Desire to Visit Turkey

Pope Francis indicated his desire to visit Turkey next year, specifically the Iznik region of Bursa province. The Vatican stated that "Pope Francis received a delegation from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate (in Istanbul) on the occasion of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, to be held in Rome on Saturday." During his speech at the meeting, Pope Francis expressed his wish to visit the Iznik region, which is part of Bursa province, next year, coinciding with the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea. He noted that "this is a journey he wishes to undertake with all his heart." The First Council of Nicaea took place in 325 AD, convened by Roman Emperor Constantine I, and involved all bishops belonging to the Christian church. Significant religious issues were discussed and decided at the council, which is considered important in the history of Christianity. Pope Francis previously visited Turkey in 2014.
