Legend Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese national team, hinted at his stance regarding the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup after the exit from Euro 2024. The Portuguese star had already confirmed that the current edition of the European Championship is the last in his career. However, Ronaldo indicated that he expects to be part of the team aiming to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: "We wanted more, we deserved more for ourselves and for each one of you and for Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for all we have achieved so far." He added, "Inside and outside the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honored, and we will continue to build together."
According to "Manchester Evening News," Ronaldo is expected to participate with Portugal in the 2026 World Cup. Portugal's coach Roberto Martinez revealed in a conversation with Ronaldo last December, "He was close to reaching 200 international matches." He added, "Something that no one has done before; I asked Ronaldo if participating in 200 international matches interests him or not? He told me that 250 matches concern him."
