Official Kuwaiti government data and preliminary investigations have revealed shocking information regarding the devastating fire that broke out in a workers' building today, Wednesday, resulting in more than 40 fatalities in an initial toll. The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Jarida" reported, citing sources, that the majority of the victims in the fire at the workers' building in the Mangaf area of Al-Ahmadi Governorate are of Indian nationality.
Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has directed that the reasons for the Mangaf fire be investigated and that those responsible be held accountable, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. A company official, where the deceased workers were employed, stated that there were 196 workers, amidst the astonishment of the Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf, who spoke to him in front of the building after the fire was extinguished.
The minister ordered the arrest of the company's responsible individuals and mandated that they not be released without a personal order from the minister until the investigation into the incident is completed and their accountability is determined. In the same context, the Director-General of Kuwait Municipality, Saud Al-Dabous, announced the referral of all leadership at the Al-Ahmadi municipality branch for investigation and their suspension from work due to the Mangaf fire, indicating that the suspension will continue until the extensive investigation into the incident concludes.
