Arrest of Killers of Doctor Found Tied Up in Najaf

The Iraqi security forces have managed to arrest suspects in the murder of a well-known dentist in Najaf Governorate. The Iraqi Interior Ministry stated in a statement that "through distinguished intelligence efforts and field follow-up, a joint force from the Falcon Cell and the Crime Combat Units in Najaf Governorate arrested the killers of the retired dentist, the late (Faisal Al-Huwaizi)." Iraqi media reported a police source, who did not wish to be named, saying that the body of Dr. Faisal Al-Huwaizi was found murdered in his home, with his hands and feet tied, after he had been shot in the head.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the well-known doctor’s house had been robbed, without disclosing the stolen items, denying reports circulating about targeting prominent scientific figures in the governorate. Furthermore, the media office of the Iraqi Dental Association posted on Facebook on Saturday, thanking the Interior Minister, Abd Al-Amir Al-Shammari, and the formations of the Interior Ministry in Najaf for responding to the call of duty and arresting the killer of Dr. Faisal Al-Huwaizi (one of the distinguished figures in medicine in Iraq) in less than 24 hours... after the Dental Association contacted the Interior Minister’s office.

The association's post added that "the deceased has five children who are dentists, and they are university professors and specialist dentists. Our condolences to them, and we await the referral of the criminals to justice so they can receive their just punishment." The murder has shaken Iraqi society in recent hours, following the revelation of its details that occurred in Najaf, amidst widespread condemnation of the perpetrators and tributes to the late doctor, who is considered one of the prominent scientific figures in Iraq. The late doctor held several academic positions in Iraq, and many of his students and patients mourned him with heartfelt words, while his family announced they would not be accepting condolences until the perpetrators are apprehended.
