A source in the Civil Defense Directorate reported today, Tuesday, that a fire broke out in commercial warehouses in northern Baghdad. The source stated that Civil Defense teams are battling a large fire that erupted in the warehouses of the Boub al-Sham commercial area, noting that one of the warehouses is used for storing fireworks. Additionally, the fire incident was accompanied by explosion sounds due to the fireworks.
On a separate note, the Ministry of Interior announced last June that over 5,500 fires occurred during the first five months of this year across Iraq, indicating a decrease in fire statistics compared to 2023. Iraq experiences many fire incidents, especially during the summer when temperatures rise, occurring in commercial and industrial areas, markets, and official buildings and institutions, with annual material damage estimated in millions of dollars, in addition to human losses.
