Stormy Weather Moves American Airlines Plane from Gate

Texas continues to face more severe weather following the deadly hurricane that struck over the weekend. Dangerous weather returned to the central part of the state early Tuesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a shelter-in-place warning for residents of Fort Worth. A video that circulated on social media showed an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 being pushed away from its gate at Dallas International Airport due to poor weather conditions. Wind gusts of up to 77 miles per hour were reported in the area before 6 a.m. Central Time. By 6:30 a.m., the NWS issued a tornado warning for residents in southeast Dallas, including the cities of Garland, Mesquite, and Richardson. Officials stated that the severe weather on Tuesday included large hail and wind gusts exceeding 80 miles per hour in Dallas County, Texas, with a risk of tornadoes developing throughout the day and into Tuesday night.

American Airlines confirmed in a statement that many of its commercial aircraft at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport were affected by the winds. Security cameras at the airport captured the American Airlines 737-800 being pushed away from the gate due to the winds on Tuesday morning. It is noteworthy that severe storms have also affected Waco, Austin, San Antonio, Abilene, and Midland. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 hours, leading to flash flooding in many parts of central and northern Texas, with anticipated rainfall amounts ranging from 3 to 5 inches from Dallas to San Antonio. Compounding the situation, widespread power outages have been reported. Oncor, the largest electricity provider in Texas, reported that hundreds of thousands of customers were without power on Tuesday morning.
