The President of the Italian Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, has made his stance clear regarding the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti, the national team's head coach, following a disappointing exit from Euro 2024, where Italy was knocked out in the Round of 16 by Switzerland (2-0) on Saturday.
During a joint press conference with Spalletti on Sunday, after Italy's departure from the tournament, Gravina stated: “We have nothing to hide, but we must continue to take responsibility... We need to feel that responsibility.”
He added: “Yesterday, there was a long conversation with the coach, and I believe it is unreasonable to solve problems by abandoning a project that spans several years... You cannot give up on a project after 8 or 9 months.”
Gravina continued: “The coach who has taken responsibility for 9 or 10 matches is essential for the project, and he cannot always have all the players available... Spalletti must have our trust, and he already does... He needs to work because in 60 days there will be a new challenge already.”
