Hollywood Actors and Writers Strike Continues for Second Day

American studios have halted production as actors joined film and television writers in Hollywood for the second consecutive day in protest over wages. In New York City and Los Angeles, actors participated in marches outside the offices of Warner Bros and Paramount, among other major studios, chanting slogans and waving signs and flags. This dual strike is the first of its kind in over 60 years and will exacerbate the economic damage caused by the writers' strike, which began on May 2, delivering another blow to an industry valued in the billions that is already grappling with changes in its business model. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is the largest union in Hollywood, representing 160,000 actors. They, along with the American Writers Guild, are demanding an increase in base pay, additional fees for live broadcasting online, and guarantees that they will not be replaced by artificial intelligence.
