Temporary Suspension of Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement Between Russia and Iran

Russian news agency reported on Tuesday, citing an official from the Russian Foreign Ministry, that a new comprehensive cooperation agreement between Moscow and Tehran has been temporarily suspended due to issues faced by Iranian partners. The agency quoted Zamir Kabulov, an official in the Foreign Ministry, stating, "This is a strategic decision for the leadership of both countries." In recent years, Russia and Iran have strengthened their relations, opposing what they view as harmful U.S. foreign policy in an effort to establish what they describe as a more equitable multipolar world order. The intention to work on a significant new agreement between Moscow and Tehran was announced in 2022 during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and then-Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who has since passed away.
