Iraq Reveals Number of ISIS Casualties Over Two Years

The Counter-Terrorism Service in Iraq reported today, Tuesday, the number of ISIS casualties due to its operations over the past two years. It affirmed the continuation of targeting ISIS using various tactics and plans, noting that its members are located in remote desert and mountainous areas away from cities.

The spokesperson for the Counter-Terrorism Service, Sabah Al-Nahman, stated that "the Counter-Terrorism Service continues, in light of the directives from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to apply pressure on the terrorist ISIS gangs and to disrupt their movements." He pointed out that "the areas where these gangs exist are limited, and they hide far from cities and their suburbs in certain desert regions and mountain ranges, using difficult terrain to conceal themselves from security forces."

Al-Nahman added that "the service continues to strike against these gangs, thanks to planning, intelligence information, and tactics that are employed, which vary according to the region and the enemy's location and the composition of the group's members. The service uses various tactical methods to surprise members of these gangs."

He noted that "the total number of their casualties from the fire of the Counter-Terrorism Service over the past two years has reached 140 terrorists, with 75 terrorists killed in 2022, 51 in 2023, and so far this year, 13 terrorists have been killed," indicating that "the casualties include individuals from different leadership levels, with some being high-ranking leaders."
