Saudi Arabia Hopes for Continued Dialogue with Iran to Enhance Regional Peace

The Saudi Council of Ministers expressed hope today, Tuesday, for the continuation of constructive dialogue with Iran, benefiting both countries and the region, and enhancing regional and international peace. The session was chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, held at the Al-Arqa Palace in Riyadh. Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari stated, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency, that the council discussed the overall foreign policy actions stemming from the Kingdom’s pivotal role internationally, with a constant desire to enhance security and stability in the region and the world, and prioritize political solutions and dialogue.

The council reviewed the progress made between Saudi Arabia and Iran in Beijing, following directions from the Kingdom’s leadership and in response to the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, which includes an agreement to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries, emphasizing the principles of respecting state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and adherence to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and international conventions and norms.

The council expressed hope for the continuation of constructive dialogue based on the foundations and principles contained in the agreement, which would yield benefits for both countries and the region as a whole, enhancing regional and international peace and security. In another context, the council renewed the Kingdom's support for all international efforts to find a political solution to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, facilitating dialogue between the parties, and anything that would ease tensions and suffering that have affected everyone due to the repercussions of the crisis, particularly on developing and least developed countries.
