Airlines in the United States have canceled more than 1300 flights today, Monday, as Hurricane Beril intensified and approached the Texas coastline. According to data from the flight tracking site (FlightAware), a total of 1331 flights have been canceled, and 505 flights have been delayed as of 6:06 AM Eastern Time. United Airlines led the cancellations with 406 flights, followed by Southwest Airlines with about 268 flights. Both airlines have issued warnings to travelers regarding the expected impacts of Hurricane Beril on flights at airports in Austin, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Houston, and others in the region. The National Hurricane Center reported that Beril, which caused significant destruction and left at least 11 dead in the Caribbean this week, reached Category 1 on the hurricane scale and could reach Category 2 upon making landfall today. Texas' largest ports halted operations and shipping on Sunday after the storm intensified. The Federal Aviation Administration warned on Friday of thunderstorms expected to negatively impact travel and air traffic across the country.
