The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, directed today, Monday, to overcome obstacles to the digital transformation process in state departments and e-government applications. The media office of al-Sudani stated in a statement that "the Prime Minister chaired the first meeting of the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation, which discussed the current state of electronic services and ongoing e-government applications, in addition to examining the digital policy and ways to organize the regulations and develop the specialized infrastructure in these areas."
The statement added that "the meeting discussed possible partnerships with the private sector and assessed the current work pathways in order to draw a roadmap and utilize successful global experiences, as well as forming a technical team of specialists to establish a methodology for state institutions and their applications for digital transformation."
The Prime Minister pointed out that "this meeting is the starting point for a series of government steps to unify the work of ministries and agencies, following a series of government attempts that lasted for 15 years, which were not under a unified umbrella and did not succeed due to the lack of a comprehensive vision. They faced resistance to change and issues regarding financial allocations that did not have a clear impact." He emphasized "the availability of positive initiatives from several ministries in this regard, and the ongoing need for comprehensive digital transformation, alongside the necessity of having a comprehensive vision for managing this vital development."
Al-Sudani stressed "the importance of working to mitigate overlaps between different entities and overcoming the obstacles to change, while recording notable successes in this area, including applications such as the electronic card, data center, Awr platform, electronic payment, and electronic passport. He directed the relevant departments to follow up on the transformation process and facilitate administrative changes and handle the challenges that accompany it based on scientific foundations and rapid practical solutions."
