Tragedy Shakes Jordan: Death of Two Young Men Lost in the Desert

Shock in Jordan followed the announcement of the discovery of the bodies of two Jordanian young men who had been lost in the Jafr desert in the south of the country since last Thursday, according to the media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate, Colonel Amer Al-Sartawi. The young men are Aanad Hamada Abutaiyeh and Aanad Al-Fitneh, whose vehicle broke down in the Jafr desert on Thursday, and they had been out of contact since then.

The two were found deceased in a remote desert area in the southern Badia, after a report was filed about their disappearance. The bodies were transferred to the forensic department to determine the cause of death and to open an investigation into the incident, as stated by the media spokesperson.

Their ordeal began when they set out early Thursday towards the eastern Jafr region, specifically to the Manawkh area, which is more than 30 kilometers from the town and lacks cellular coverage. After their vehicle broke down, they were forced to walk towards Jafr.

According to circulating information, the two young men were found in two separate locations in the desert while trying to seek help after they split up in different directions. Khaled Al-Jazi, a resident of the southern Badia, mentioned that communication issues have long troubled the inhabitants of the Jafr area, despite having a significant population. He noted that the region is inhabited by nomadic Bedouins with livestock, but it is outside the coverage of communication networks.
