Two consecutive earthquakes measuring 6.9 and 7.1 struck off the coast of Kyushu Island in southern Japan on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center stated that there is no immediate threat of tsunami waves due to the earthquakes. However, Japan had issued a tsunami warning in several areas on the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku in the southwest of the country following the first earthquake, according to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. Reports indicated that a tsunami wave reached Miyazaki Prefecture in southwestern Japan. It is not yet known if either of the earthquakes caused damage or casualties.
