Egypt: What Angered Naguib Sawiris and What is the Relation to Electricity?

Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris commented in response to a post on platform X regarding gas supply problems and electricity load shedding: "I wish you would just stop talking... and retire from this profession." The post was about a person named Ahmed Mubarak, who identifies as an Egyptian writer and politician, discussing a conspiracy to pressure Egypt that has recently manifested in a shortage of natural gas and the state's increased hours of electricity cuts to 3 hours.

Mubarak claimed that there is a serious development in the ongoing pressure on Egypt to implement a resettlement scheme. He remarked that after navigation in the Red Sea was halted by 90%, and the revenue from the Suez Canal significantly decreased affecting the state's dollar resources during this sensitive time, Israel had also prevented gas from reaching Egypt for liquefaction, claiming technical malfunctions at wells, which further exacerbated the economic impact. He stated, "Israel and America pressured Cyprus and Greece to stop exporting gas to Egypt for liquefaction, affecting the amount of gas Egypt was relying on during the peak of the heat crisis and the economic crisis."

Mubarak alleged that the causes of the electricity cuts related to high temperatures and a shortage of dollar resources are certainly true, but the main reason is the economic pressures exerted by Israel and the U.S. on Egypt to create an internal crisis that would lead to public outrage, forcing Egypt to accept Israel's resettlement plan.

In response to Sawiris's comment, Mubarak asked: "Is this the freedom of opinion you advocate for? A democracy in one direction?"
