Egyptian media reported on Wednesday that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi promoted Major General Abd El-Majid Saqr to the rank of First Lieutenant General and appointed him as Minister of Defense.
Who is Abd El-Majid Saqr?
Major General Abd El-Majid Saqr was born in 1962 and took office as the Governor of Suez in September 2018. He has held several positions, including Assistant Minister of Defense in 2015, Head of Military Police, and then Deputy Head of the Military Police. Major General Saqr has received several decorations and medals, including the First Class Military Duty Medal and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. He holds a Master's degree in Military Sciences from Nasser Military Academy and a Bachelor's degree in Military Sciences from the Military Academy.
President El-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, issued a decision to promote Saqr from the rank of Major General to First Lieutenant General.
