Abu Faour: The Presidency is Forgotten and There is No Future for Lebanon without the Lebanese University

Member of the "Democratic Gathering" bloc, MP Wael Abu Faour, emphasized that "the issue of the presidency is not on anyone's mind, and no one is discussing this matter." He stated, "The pressing issue being addressed is the vacancy in the security institutions, specifically the army and internal security forces, and this is what we have called for and continue to urge—to avoid this vacancy as soon as possible."

Abu Faour made these remarks during a tour with the President of the Lebanese University, Professor Bassam Badran, at the university branches in Rashaya. He said, "Enough with the injustice towards the Lebanese University; there can be no future for Lebanon without it. The Lebanese University is among the best in terms of reputation, education, and quality. It is unjustly treated by the unfair budgets it receives from the state."

Abu Faour stressed two main points: "The budget for the Lebanese University should be provided in full without any cuts, in order to ensure the future of Lebanese youth. Second, regarding employment, I know there is a decision against hiring and an inflation in the public sector, but there is a need for several staff members for the university to function properly. Those who are retiring exceed the needs of the university, and thus I hope for a positive response to the university's request and that of its president and council, allowing them to hire about 240 employees so that the university can fulfill its duties."
