Fujairah Plans to Welcome Half a Million Visitors to Heritage Sites

The Emirate of Fujairah aims to double the number of visitors to its heritage sites, targeting half a million visitors, after recording nearly 113,000 visits to its top seven archaeological sites in 2022. The Al-Bidya Mosque topped the list of most visited sites with around 88,740 visitors, followed by Fujairah Fort, then the Fujairah Museum and Dibba Fort.

Heritage sites, including forts, museums, and archaeological villages, have been crucial to tourism in Fujairah over the past years due to their diversity and unique appeal. The emirate’s famous landmarks hold inspiring historical tales about Fujairah's history and rich heritage.

The Fujairah Department of Tourism and Antiquities confirmed that it is "seeking to double the current visitor numbers to archaeological sites in the emirate, especially with ongoing development and maintenance work to enhance services near those sites." They pointed out that "the emirate has an ambitious plan aimed at transforming archaeological areas into fully integrated tourist attractions, providing an ideal experience for heritage and archaeological site enthusiasts."

The department explained that it is "working to keep pace with trends related to enhancing sustainable tourism by focusing on environmentally friendly projects, both in terms of hospitality facilities and the quality of roads and services in those areas." These efforts will be added to a series of projects aimed at enhancing services and investments in well-known archaeological sites such as the Al-Bidya Mosque, Fujairah Museum, heritage area, and forts in Al-Bithna, Masafi, Al-Hil, Awahila, Skamkam, and Habhab.

Fujairah occupies an important part of domestic tourism, attracting visitors from citizens and residents of various emirates due to its unique climatic conditions and geographical nature. Its proximity to the Sultanate of Oman has also made it a popular destination for Omani tourists. Additionally, the emirate features many hotel establishments with a variety of leading hotel brands, reflecting positively on the tourism sector and contributing to attracting more tourists from different countries to enjoy Fujairah's unique nature.

Recently, the department completed the restoration project of more than 12 forts, exemplifying the Fujairah government's vision focused on continuously developing and enhancing its tourism sector.
