A Russian bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region of Siberia, resulting in the death of one of its pilots, according to local governor Igor Kobzev. The incident occurred on Thursday evening during a training flight when a "Tu-22M2" aircraft went down in a barren area near a town, causing no damage on the ground, Russian authorities reported. Kobzev wrote on Telegram, quoting "military command from the Ministry of Defense," that search and rescue operations "at the crash site continued throughout the night. Unfortunately, it was impossible to save one of the pilots." He confirmed "this is a great loss," extending "sincere condolences" to the pilot's family. Kobzev stated that the other three pilots in the bomber's crew were taken to the hospital for injuries. He explained that the accident was due to a "technical malfunction," according to "preliminary" information.
