Outbreak of Infectious Bacteria in Hospital in Israel Affecting Dozens

Rambam Hospital in Haifa announced today, Tuesday, that its teams have taken urgent measures in an attempt to control the spread of infectious bacterial diseases in some of its departments. According to the hospital, these bacterial infections have impacted around 50 patients who were receiving treatment there.

In an official statement, the management specified that it "ordered immediate actions on Monday to contain the outbreak of infectious diseases discovered in several departments of the hospital, where about 50 patients contracted the infection."

The statement further indicated that the outbreak involves "resistant bacteria such as Acetobacter, Klebsiella, and the fungus Candida auris." It noted that while these infectious diseases "do not pose a risk to healthy individuals, they can result in life-threatening complications for patients with weakened immune systems."

The statement highlighted that "dealing with this type of infection has represented a significant challenge in recent years, especially in hospitals crowded with patients in emergency and internal departments worldwide.”

According to the statement, Hospital Director Mickey Halberthal has instructed medical staff to use full protective measures when moving from one patient to another in the departments where infections have been detected. Halberthal also directed that new patients should not be admitted to these departments until the outbreak of these infectious diseases is controlled, and guidelines have been disseminated to inform the families of visiting patients in these departments about the special protective measures.
