The Hammurabi General Contracting Company in Iraq announced on Tuesday that the opening of the old Daqouq Bridge, which connects Kirkuk and Salah al-Din provinces, is scheduled for the end of July. The company provided details about the work done. In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), project manager Mohammad Hussein Wahib said, "The opening of the old Daqouq Bridge will take place at the end of this month after its rehabilitation, following significant damage due to floodwaters."
He added that "the work included demolishing and rebuilding 12 spaces, in addition to maintaining other spaces," stating that "the current completion rate has reached 97 percent." He noted that "the remaining work includes furnishing, protective fencing, and lighting, which will be completed for the bridge's opening to vehicles at the end of this month." Wahib explained that "the old Daqouq Bridge is 1,000 meters long and is considered one of the important commercial and tourist routes on the road linking Baghdad and Kirkuk," pointing out that "the rehabilitation phase covered a distance of 270 meters."
